This chart is based on data from the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, the main data source for earnings used by the UK government. It covers all employees, including both men and women and full-time and part-time. Annual figures have been calculated from a measure of weekly earnings and so are likely to understate the importance of bonus payments, which tend to be paid annually. It has been adjusted for changes in prices using the Retail Prices Index (RPI) measure of inflation. All figures are expressed in 2010 prices.
